Create a rustic Halloween Banner that can withstand the weather, using Mod Podge for outdoors and Stiffy Fabric Stiffener with this festive Halloween Banner DIY tutorial.
Using the latest products from Mod Podge, their new Mod Podge for Outdoors and Stiffy Fabric Stiffener, I’ve created a fun and festive Halloween Banner that can be safely used outdoors to withstand the weather.
TOOLS & MATERIALS:
- Mod Podge Outdoor
- Stiffy Fabric Stiffener
- Fabric paint
- Brush
- Coffee sacks or burlap fabric
- String
- Stencils
- Clothes pins
step 1
Measure and cut your fabric.
Make one rectangle for each letter.
step 2
Lay your stencils on top of each fabric rectangle and paint your letters.
Don’t let your paint get too thick or it will bleed and you will lose the detail of your stencils.
step 3
In a bowl (I lined mine with aluminum foil) mix your stiffy with some water.
step 4
Measure out your string. Make it as long as you want your banner to be.
I doubled my string to make it a little thicker.
Tie a knot in each end.
Find somewhere to hang your string where your fabric can dry on the string.
step 5
Dip each fabric rectangle into the stiffy/water mixture and drain as much out as possible.
You can squeeze the stiffy/water mixture out, but make sure you flatten it or it will dry and you’ll get stiff wrinkles.
step 6
Fold the tops of your fabric rectangles over your string and hold with a clothespin to dry.
Make sure your fabric looks the way you want it to, because it will dry very stiff.
Let dry.
step 7
Pour your outdoor Mod Podge into a bowl and using your brush spread it evenly over your stiffened dry fabric.
This will help to weatherproof it, if you’re going to use it outside.
Let your Mod Podge dry, it will dry clear.
Mod Podge is one of the greatest craft supplies out there. It’s not just for crafty projects, if you read my blog regularly then you’ve seen me use it many times for shoes, bags, jewelry, etc. With their latest Mod Podge Outdoors you can now trust it to the elements. As I’m writing this I was just thinking that the Mod Podge Outdoors would be perfect if you’re using it on shoes! (Not all elements have been tested. wink)
Create a rustic banner for outdoors or even use this one inside as a fun decoration for a party.
