DIY Painted Scarves Supplies
step 1
Pre-wash and press your scarves if necessary. Especially if you’re using new bandanas, as they tend to be really stiff.

step 2
Lay your scarf out on a flat surface.

Place paper or cardboard under your scarf in case your paint bleeds through.

step 3
Draw your quote or words on your scarf using a pencil.DIY Painted Scarves Drawing the design

step 4
If you are using puff paint in a tube, just start squeezing it directly onto your scarf.

Add dimension and interest to your letters by making some lines thicker than others.DIY Painted Scarves Letters

If you’re left-handed, like me, be sure to start on the right side and work towards the left. This will keep your paint from smearing.DIY Painted Scarves Painting

Let your paint dry for a few hours or overnight.

step 5
If you’re using fabric paint and a brush, you can paint your words directly onto the scarf as you go or you can draw them in before hand.

Use a ruler or a wooden dowel to help you keep your lines straight.DIY Painted Scarves using a guide

I painted mine free hand and got a little big, you can see where the words run off the scarf, but I kinda like that effect.DIY Painted Scarves Hand Painted Letters

Use a quote or something that’s meaningful to you, something that will inspire you!DIY Painted Scarves Photo TextDIY Painted Scarves Photo

I used this quote from Andy Warhol:

Don’t think about
making art, just get
it done. Let
everyone else decide
if it’s good or bad,
whether they love it
or hate it. While they
are deciding, make
even more art.

-Andy Warhol

This is a fun project to relax and get creative with. You can also add lots more details, patterns or keep it just words.

Leave me a comment and let me know how yours turns out.
