The weekend is finally here! (Cue the confetti cannons!) Today, I thought I’d share a different way to embellish a t-shirt by using chains to create a cool outline design. Grab a tee, some lightweight chains, and get the free downloadable design below to make your own edgy DIY Tee with Chains!

SUPPLIES YOU’LL NEED:

step 1
Download and print out your design.Tee with Chains diamond template

step 2
Tape your pattern in place on your t-shirt.

Use a pencil to poke holes in your design where you will sew it.DIY Tee with Chains piercing the template

Press through those holes with your chalk to make a mark so you know where to sew.Tee with Chains chalk templateTee with Chains chalk dots

step 3
I started at the bottom point of my diamond.

Sew the end of your chain securely to your t-shirt.DIY Tee with Chains sewing

step 4
As you move up to your next point of attachment, smooth your chain. You don’t want to pull your chain tight or it will pull your t-shirt when you wear it, but don’t let it droop too much either.DIY Tee with Chains sewing

step 5
Keep sewing each point around the outside of your design.DIY Tee with Chains sewing outline

When you start working on the inside design, cut your chain to fit your design, sewing your chain at the ends.DIY Tee with Chains sewingDIY Tee with Chains sewingtee-with-chains-finished

Make sure you secure your chain as you’re sewing to make sure it doesn’t come undone.DIY Tee with Chains by Trinkets in BloomDIY Tee with Chains by Trinkets in BloomDIY Tee with Chains by Trinkets in Bloom

A really cool thing about this t-shirt is that the design is really subtle and you can dress it up or down. It’s the perfect little black tee (LBT) to wear under a jacket. With the chains you don’t need a necklace just focus on your earrings or some cool bracelets and you’re ready to rock it!

What are you making this weekend? Maybe a T-Shirt with Chains? Leave a comment and share what you’re up to!

I’m obsessed with faux fur clutches! It’s like carrying around a stuffed animal but way cooler and more grownup. This DIY Faux Fur Clutch is a total Ikea hack, turning a faux sheepskin throw into the cuddliest clutch!

I love using this throw from Ikea for this, because faux fur can get a little expensive and for $12 you’ve got enough faux fur for this clutch and enough for something else down the road. I have a Christmas decor project in the works that I will be using the rest of this faux fur for. (Be sure to check back later this month for that.)

step 1
Lay your lining fabric out flat.

Measure your fabric. I made mine 16 inches wide by 12 inches tall.DIY Faux Fur Clutch measuring fabric

Cut 2 pieces this size.

step 2
Lay your faux fur furry side down.

Place your lining on top and mark out your measurements.DIY Faux Fur Clutch laying out fabricDIY Faux Fur Clutch cutting fabric

step 3
Cut your faux fur by sliding the blade of your scissors just along the base fabric.

If you cut just the fabric part of the faux fur you won’t end up with tiny pieces of fur everywhere.

step 4
Pin the zipper along one of the long sides of your faux fur, with the fur facing the zipper.

step 5
Pin your lining on the other side opposite the fur.DIY Faux Fur Clutch pin faux furDIY Faux Fur Clutch pin lining

You will be sewing them together at the same time.

step 6
Sew the first side of your faux fur and lining to one side of your zipper.

step 7
Repeat steps 4, 5, and 6 on the other side of your zipper.

step 8
UNZIP YOUR ZIPPER.

This is important, it will be difficult to do this once your bag is sewn and you need it open to turn it right side out.

step 9
Pin the right sides of your lining together.

Sew your lining together and leave about 5 or 6 inches open. You will use this hole to turn the bag right side out.

step 10
Pin the right sides of your faux fur together and sew all the way around.

Sewing this faux fur as a bit tough for my basic sewing machine, but I went slow and it worked fine. Just take your time.

step 11
Turn your bag right side out through the hole you left in your lining.

step 12
Using a needle and thread sew up the hole in the lining.

This is a great clutch for chilly weather, it can also double as a hand warmer! ;)DIY Faux Fur Clutch by Trinkets in BloomDIY Faux Fur Clutch by Trinkets in Bloom

Will you rock a faux fur clutch? Leave a comment and let me know.

Happy November! It’s time to get cozy with this Patched Plaid Shirt DIY. It’s a fun way to mix up your plaids and stay cozy and chic at the same time! Let’s get started!

Supplies you’ll need:

  • 2 Plaid shirts (I used one of mine and one of my husbands)
  • Scissors
  • Pins
  • Leather
  • Studs
  • Sewing Machine
  • Fabric tape

Patched Plaid Shirt DIY Supplies
I used one of my shirts that is a bit fitted and one of my husband’s shirts which is larger and longer to give me more length in the back.

step 1
Cut the back out of both your shirtsPatched Plaid Shirt DIY cutting sidesPatched Plaid Shirt DIY shirt with back cut out

step 2
Measure the top of your larger shirt and find the center point.Patched Plaid Shirt DIY measuring back

Measure the top of your smaller shirt and using the difference in the measurement use that to make your pleat.

My larger shirt was 3 inches wider so I made 2 – 1 and a half inch pleats on either side of my center point.

Pin your pleats in place.PATCHED-PLAID-SHIRT-PINNED-PLEATPatched Plaid Shirt DIY

step 3
Pin your larger back into place on your smaller shirt.Patched Plaid Shirt DIY back pinned

Pin across the top back, around the arm holes and down the sides.Patched Plaid Shirt DIY pinning the armholePatched Plaid Shirt DIY side pinned

step 4
Sew the larger back in place.

step 5
Cut off the pocket.Patched Plaid Shirt DIY shirt pocket removed

Use the original pocket as a pattern for the leather pocket.

Make sure you leave a small hem around 3 sides.

step 6
Using the fabric tape fold a small hem around your pocket on 3 sides.Patched Plaid Shirt DIY leather pocket with tape

step 7
Use the fabric tape to attach your pocket to your shirt.Patched Plaid Shirt DIY leather pocket with tape

step 8
Layout your studs where you want them by your pocket.Patched Plaid Shirt DIY adding studs

My studs were hot fix so I was able to iron them on.

You can do this by placing a thin cloth over them and using a hot dry iron, iron them onto your shirt keeping the iron moving slowing while pressing firmly.PATCHED-PLAID-SHIRT-POCKET-FINISHEDPatched Plaid Shirt DIYPatched Plaid Shirt DIYPatched Plaid Shirt DIYPatched Plaid Shirt DIY

Do you ever look through your closet and you have those shirts that you still like but you NEVER wear them? Well that is totally what inspired this DIY. My husband had volunteered his shirt about a year ago for another project and I really liked the fabric so I held onto it, but I had no idea what to use it for. My shirt was one of those shirts that when I saw it I liked it but everytime I put it on it just wasn’t right. So my brilliant idea was to combine the two! I think it definitely improved them both and I’m sure I’ll wear it a lot more than before.

Do you have something in your closet that’s just dying for a DIYover?

DIY T-Shirt with Lace Cuffs Tutorial by Trinkets in Bloom

There’s nothing like a t-shirt, they’re comfortable, easy to wear and go perfect with most everything, but with a touch of lace this t-shirt really sets itself apart. I love having just the lace peek out from under a jacket. This could easily become my new go to t-shirt, it’s still super comfy but it looks a little more special than just a basic tee.DIY T-Shirt with Lace Cuffs Tutorial by Trinkets in Bloom

TOOLS & MATERIALS:

  • Long sleeve t-shirt – mine’s from Uniqlo
  • Lace – choose a soft lace with scalloped edge
  • Scissors
  • Needle & thread
  • Pins

DIY T-Shirt with Lace Cuffs Supplies
step 1
Turn your t-shirt inside out.

Decide how much lace you want to stick out of your t-shirt.

I have about 2.5 inches sticking out on mine.DIY T-Shirt with Lace Cuffs Measuring

step 2
Cut your lace leaving at least an extra half inch for sewing.

And cut it wide enough to go all the way around the sleeve with an inch for overlap.

step 3
Pin the lace to the inside of your sleeve.DIY T-Shirt with Lace Cuffs Pinning

step 4
Using your needle and thread carefully sew the lace to the t-shirt.

I recommend sewing into the hem on your sleeve, this way you won’t be able to see your stitches on the outside of your t-shirt.DIY T-Shirt with Lace Cuffs Sewing

Sew all the way around.

step 5
When you’ve sewn the lace to your t-shirt, sew the lace together on the side.

Do this for both sleeves.DIY T-Shirt with Lace Cuffs FinishedDIY T-Shirt with Lace Cuffs Close UpDIY T-Shirt with Lace Cuffs by Trinkets in Bloom

Leave me a comment and let me know how your t-shirt turns out.
