So finally, as a DIY birthday present to myself I made a pair! This fall you&#146;ll see studded and spiked boots and shoes everywhere, so why not start a little early with a pair you can wear right now.<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-8022\" alt=\"DIY Studded Converse Inspiration\" src=\"http:\/\/www.trinketsinbloom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/diy-studded-converse-inspiration.jpg\" width=\"630\" height=\"420\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.trinketsinbloom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/diy-studded-converse-inspiration.jpg 630w, https:\/\/www.trinketsinbloom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/diy-studded-converse-inspiration-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.trinketsinbloom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/diy-studded-converse-inspiration-450x300.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 630px) 100vw, 630px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>TOOLS &amp; MATERIALS:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>1 Pair of high top sneakers (I used <a href=\"http:\/\/www.converse.com\/?CSID=62308_kwid\/#\/home\" target=\"_blank\">converse<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>Studs and spikes (I used <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mjtrim.com\/nailheads\/6mm-hotfix-round-nailhead.html\" target=\"_blank\">these<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mjtrim.com\/nailheads\/10mm-hotfix-flat-top-pyramid-stud.html\" target=\"_blank\">these<\/a> &amp; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mjtrim.com\/spikes\/7mm-x-14mm-metal-spikes-with-screw.html\" target=\"_blank\">these<\/a> from M &amp; J Trimming)<\/li>\n<li>Glue<\/li>\n<li>Screwdriver (useful if you&#146;re using spikes w\/ screws)<\/li>\n<li>Awl or sharp scissors (to poke holes)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-8007\" alt=\"DIY Studded Converse Supplies\" src=\"http:\/\/www.trinketsinbloom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/diy-studded-converse-supplies.jpg\" width=\"630\" height=\"420\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.trinketsinbloom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/diy-studded-converse-supplies.jpg 630w, https:\/\/www.trinketsinbloom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/diy-studded-converse-supplies-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.trinketsinbloom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/diy-studded-converse-supplies-450x300.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 630px) 100vw, 630px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>step 1<\/strong><br \/>\nFirst things first, decide how and where you want your studs and spikes to be.<\/p>\n<p>I laid out a few ideas and took pictures with my phone before deciding.<\/p>\n<p><strong>step 2<\/strong><br \/>\nI started with the spikes down the back spine of the sneakers first.<\/p>\n<p>To do this I used a tape measure and a pencil to mark where I wanted the spikes to be.<\/p>\n<p>When you know where you want your spikes, use your awl or sharp scissors to poke a hole through your shoes where you will be putting your spikes. Be careful!!!<\/p>\n<p>This can be a little tricky down around the heel of the sneaker because of the reinforcement, but you can do it!<\/p>\n<p><strong>step 3<\/strong><br \/>\nAs soon as you poke your hole through your sneaker put the screw through the hole. This will keep the fabric from closing in over the hole.<\/p>\n<p>I recommend making all your holes and putting all your screws in first before adding the spikes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>step 4<\/strong><br \/>\nWhen you have all your screws through your sneaker you&#146;re ready to add your spikes.<\/p>\n<p>Using a toothpick, put a small amount of glue on the screw part and screw your spike onto the screw.<\/p>\n<p>This is where a screwdriver comes in handy. Make sure your screws are in tight.<\/p>\n<p>Glue and screw in all spikes.<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-8006\" alt=\"DIY Studded Converse Adding Spikes\" src=\"http:\/\/www.trinketsinbloom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/diy-studded-converse-back-spikes1.jpg\" width=\"630\" height=\"630\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>step 5<\/strong><br \/>\nNow you&#146;re ready to add your studs to the sides of your sneakers.<\/p>\n<p>If you&#146;ve already taken a picture with your phone that will come in very handy here.<\/p>\n<p>I didn&#146;t mark on the sneakers where to put the studs, I just eyeballed it. You can use a tape measure and a pencil and mark them if you want.<\/p>\n<p><strong>TIP:<\/strong> I&#146;ve found that the best way to add glue to your studs is to put some glue on a paper plate and use a toothpick to apply it to your stud before putting it on your sneaker.<\/p>\n<p>Put glue on your studs and add them one by one to your sneakers.<\/p>\n<p>Be careful to not use too much glue so that it squishes out and gets messy.<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-8011\" alt=\"DIY Studded Converse Adding Studs\" src=\"http:\/\/www.trinketsinbloom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/diy-studded-converse-side-studs.jpg\" width=\"630\" height=\"420\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.trinketsinbloom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/diy-studded-converse-side-studs.jpg 630w, https:\/\/www.trinketsinbloom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/diy-studded-converse-side-studs-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.trinketsinbloom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/diy-studded-converse-side-studs-450x300.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 630px) 100vw, 630px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Add all your studs this way.<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-8008\" alt=\"DIY Studded Converse Outer Side Finished\" src=\"http:\/\/www.trinketsinbloom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/diy-studded-converse-side-studs-2.jpg\" width=\"630\" height=\"420\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.trinketsinbloom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/diy-studded-converse-side-studs-2.jpg 630w, https:\/\/www.trinketsinbloom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/diy-studded-converse-side-studs-2-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.trinketsinbloom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/diy-studded-converse-side-studs-2-450x300.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 630px) 100vw, 630px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I put my flat top pyramid studs on the outside of my sneakers and a circle of round nailheads around the converse logo on the inside. In school we all drew on our sneakers and the few punk rock kids did add a few spikes, but now with the much easier accessibility to studs and spikes we can all go crazy and cover our sneakers, plus it&#146;s much more fashionable now.
