How to Make your own Paris DIY Doodled T-Shirt

I love fashion, but when it comes right down to it I’m really a t-shirt and jeans person, that’s what makes this Paris DIY Doodled T-shirt so perfect. This t-shirt is far from basic, with elements taken from doodles and sketches of Parisian icons, it’s a perfect addition to your fall (or even summer) wardrobe. For this DIY I’ve even created a free downloadable design for you to use to make your own.

After seeing the cute doodle t-shirts in J. Crew’s fall line I was inspired to make this project. I don’t know if it was the cheapskate in me or I just really wanted the challenge to see if I could make one myself, but as much as I liked them I couldn’t help but really want to make one. Depending on where you get your t-shirt, you can also make one for way less! Let’s get started.

step 1

Download the Paris doodle design here, or design your own.

To make it the original size 9” wide, you’ll need to print it out on 2 sheets (unless you can print tabloid size). If you print it out on two sheets, just trim and tape it together.

step 2

Slide your design inside your t-shirt.

A rule of thumb is to start your design about 2” down from the neck.

Check your sides and make sure your design is centered.

When you have it where you want it, tape it inside your t-shirt to keep it from moving.

step 3

Before you start tracing your design, play around with your colors and try using a paintbrush and water with your fabric markers. Use a scrap of t-shirt fabric or something similar.

Fabric markers often write darker than they look, they also look very different after adding water.

Work on small areas at a time and add the water before the ink dries, to use this watercolor method.

Once you get the hang of how it works go ahead and start on your t-shirt, do the colors first.

step 4

After you’ve added all your colors, go back in and add the outlines.

Have fun with this and make it sketchy, remember it’s supposed to look like a doodle, it doesn’t have to be perfect.
