When I originally started writing Trinkets in Bloom, I was trying to make it a fashion/artistic blog. As much as I love those things they just werent filling me with joy and enthusiasm as far as sharing them on the blog.

It wasnt until my husband convinced me that I should be sharing all of the things I was making, that I finally switched gears and followed my passion.

Which totally makes sense since I literally grew up in my mothers yarn shop and Ive been making and embellishing my own clothes since I was old enough to sew, glue and cut. I have my degree in Fibers/textiles and Ive been working in the fashion industry since college. This really should have clicked sooner. Anyway… let’s get started!

Tutorials from the cover photo above are as follows from left to right; Mod Black and White T-Shirt DIY, DIY Rhinestone Sunglasses, Satin Headband DIY and DIY Tassel Earrings.

One Year Anniversary DIY'sFrom the early days I loved the idea of repurposing things you already own. This Collar Necklace DIY is a great way to use a collar from an old shirt and some beads from old necklaces. The Striped Leather Purse DIY is one of my faves! That bag had been sitting in my closet for years! Literally!
Dont be afraid, have fun!

One Year Anniversary SpikesOnce you work with spikes you want to put them on everything! These are two of my favorite pieces, I wear them all the time.
You can see my inspiration books in these pictures. I keep a 3 ring binder of magazine tear outs with all my ideas and wants to inspire my DIYs.
To see these spike DIYs check out the Spiked Chain Necklace DIY and Spike Bracelet DIY.

One Year Anniversary Labor of LoveThe DIYs in this group are definitely Labors of Love.
These DIY’s are what happens with I get get really inspired and think I have more time than I do. The best part about them, though is that when youre done, you can really wear them. Ive never been one for hot gluing my clothes together. If youre going to spend the time, then do it right. But dont get me wrong, I LOVE my hot glue gun and use it often, just not usually on my clothes. I use Jewel-it for that! LOL

The above DIYs are as follows from left to right: Coffee Sack Purse DIY, Embellished T-Shirt DIY, Baroque Buckle Bracelet DIY, DIY T-Shirt with Paillettes and Beaded Flip Flops DIY.

One of the newest additions to Trinkets in Bloom has been video tutorials. I hope they help you to better follow the tutorials when making your projects. You can check out my YouTube channel for all the videos, they’re also on the posts that have videos as well.

Thank you for taking the time to look back at some of the DIYs from the first year of Trinkets in Bloom. Be sure to check out all the other DIY’s on the blog, there was no way to fit them all in this one post!
I hope these DIYs inspire you to get crafty and do it yourself.

Keep checking back, because there will be a lot more DIYs to come!

  7. I would like to take the time to let you know how brilliant I think you are. Many projects seem to take on a life of their own and I’m glad to see how yours has come along. I live in the Providence RI area where the RI School of Design is and I’ve had the opportunity to see many ideas transform. I have not had any formal training, but have been a life long crafter and have been crocheting since 2001. I’m a little jealous that you got to grow up in a yarn shop! ;) Thank you so very much for dedicating yourself to this site. You are appreciated and adored. Julie
