IKEA Hack DIY Faux Fur Clutch

I’m obsessed with faux fur clutches! It’s like carrying around a stuffed animal but way cooler and more grownup. This DIY Faux Fur Clutch is a total Ikea hack, turning a faux sheepskin throw into the cuddliest clutch!

I love using this throw from Ikea for this, because faux fur can get a little expensive and for $12 you’ve got enough faux fur for this clutch and enough for something else down the road. I have a Christmas decor project in the works that I will be using the rest of this faux fur for. (Be sure to check back later this month for that.)

step 1
Lay your lining fabric out flat.

Measure your fabric. I made mine 16 inches wide by 12 inches tall.DIY Faux Fur Clutch measuring fabric

Cut 2 pieces this size.

step 2
Lay your faux fur furry side down.

Place your lining on top and mark out your measurements.DIY Faux Fur Clutch laying out fabricDIY Faux Fur Clutch cutting fabric

step 3
Cut your faux fur by sliding the blade of your scissors just along the base fabric.

If you cut just the fabric part of the faux fur you won’t end up with tiny pieces of fur everywhere.

step 4
Pin the zipper along one of the long sides of your faux fur, with the fur facing the zipper.

step 5
Pin your lining on the other side opposite the fur.DIY Faux Fur Clutch pin faux furDIY Faux Fur Clutch pin lining

You will be sewing them together at the same time.

step 6
Sew the first side of your faux fur and lining to one side of your zipper.

step 7
Repeat steps 4, 5, and 6 on the other side of your zipper.

step 8
UNZIP YOUR ZIPPER.

This is important, it will be difficult to do this once your bag is sewn and you need it open to turn it right side out.

step 9
Pin the right sides of your lining together.

Sew your lining together and leave about 5 or 6 inches open. You will use this hole to turn the bag right side out.

step 10
Pin the right sides of your faux fur together and sew all the way around.

Sewing this faux fur as a bit tough for my basic sewing machine, but I went slow and it worked fine. Just take your time.

step 11
Turn your bag right side out through the hole you left in your lining.

step 12
Using a needle and thread sew up the hole in the lining.

This is a great clutch for chilly weather, it can also double as a hand warmer! ;)DIY Faux Fur Clutch by Trinkets in BloomDIY Faux Fur Clutch by Trinkets in Bloom
