What you’ll need to make your DIY Tassel Earrings:
- 2 Upholstery tassels
- 5 inches of rhinestone trim
- 2 Earring hooks
- 2 Jump rings
- Aileen’s Jewel-it glue
- Needle and Thread
Measure your rhinestone trim by wrapping it around the top of your tassels and cut 2 pieces. Make sure your trim ends butt up against each other try to keep them from over lapping, you don’t want them to stick out.
Take your tassels and your Aileen’s Jewel-it glue and put the glue all the way around the top of the tassel, where you will be attaching your rhinestone trim. Follow the instructions on the glue, depending on the type of rhinestone trim you are using you may need to let the glue sit for 10 minutes before placing your trim.
Place your rhinestone trim around the top of your tassels pressing it into the glue and hold it in place with your fingers.
Using your needle and thread, sew the ends of your rhinestone trim together and also run your thread through your trim and the top of your tassel a few times as an extra way to hold the trim.
If you have a top loop on your tassel, you can fold it over and glue it down.
Add your jump rings and your earring hooks to the top of your tassels.
Working on top of a paper towel (I recommend using the paper towel at least doubled), take your sharpie and your tassels and color the bottom half of your tassels.
The sharpies tend to be a bit stinky, so do this in a well ventilated area. I also recommend hanging your earrings by an open window at least over night to help get rid of the smell.
I was thinking you could also try using ink for coloring the tassels, to try to avoid the sharpie smell, just work slowly in case the ink bleeds up the tassels. The good thing about the sharpies is that they dry very quickly.
