DIY GLITTER SHOES
With so many fun fashion shoes on the runways for Spring, and in so many bright colors I knew what my closet needed was a serious dose of color. This DIY project is a fun and super easy way to bring an ordinary pair of pumps to the next level using only Mod Podge and glitter.
You can make these in the morning and be doing the cha cha by evening!

What you’ll need to make your DIY Glitter Shoes:
- Suede pumps (in your color of choice – mine are from Forever 21)
- Mod Podge
- Glitter
- Bowl
- Brushes – 1 big, 1 small
- White chalk
- Flexible curve – optional it helps with marking your design
Step 1
Decide where you want to put your design. I made some sketches to help me visualize.
Step 2
Using your chalk and your flexible curve (optional) carefully mark your design.
Do this for both shoes. When you are marking your second shoe make sure all your designs match from one shoe to the other (unless of course you want them different).
You can also use tape to mark off your design but I find this to be a little messy, because the tape doesn’t always keep it from bleeding through and once your Glitter/Mod Podge mixture is dry it tends to be a bit rubbery as in, if you pull on it, it will peel. So, in my opinion it’s better to go slow and wing it.
Step 3
Mix your Mod Podge and glitter in a small bowl. I always do this by an open window. The Mod Podge is a bit stinky.
Step 4
Starting with your big brush paint your Glitter/Mod Podge mixture onto your first shoe. I recommend starting in the middle of your design and working toward your edges. You will use your small brush to carefully paint the edges of your design.
When you are painting the edges you can easily push the mixture back with your nail if it gets out of line. You can also clean it off the shoes easily if you catch it quickly.
Step 5
Place your shoes outside if you can or by an open window to dry, they will dry faster this way.
I also recommend you don’t throw out your Glitter/Mod Podge mixture yet. As your shoes dry check them for places where the shoe color is showing through and touch them up.
Once your shoes are completely dry you’re ready to roll. I found the dried Glitter/Mod Podge to be pretty tough too. Of course you still want to treat them with care but enjoy, kick up your heels and add a splash of color to your life with a sparkle!

just a quick question. would this work for faux leather shoes as well? i have a worn-out pair of oxford heels that i’d love to refashion, but all the tutorials i have come across so far used suede/faux suede.
I don’t see why it wouldn’t work on faux leather too. I’ve used the same glitter/mod podge mixture on glass and it stays on fine.
You could always scuff the faux leather a little with an emery board to give it more texture for the mixture to stick to.

I love this blog!! So so so helpful! I want to do this to a pair of heels for a hens night in a couple of weeks n not that I’m rough with my shoes but I am going out in them I was just wondering how well it has stuck to ur suede shoes? Has any come off of it?

It actually stays on pretty well. Once it’s completely dry it’s pretty tough. You still want to be careful, little scuffs wont make it fall off or normal wear. I’ve found them to hold up pretty well.

I just did a pair of stilettos with silver glitter on the entire shoes and they are perfect! I found that once shaking off the loose glitter, cheap hairspray works perfect to hold everything tight in place and prevents leaving a glitter trail behind you as you walk! They look awesome!!
