Supplies to make your DIY Lilly Pulitzer Minaudiere:

  • 2 Small cookie boxes like animal crackers
  • Small piece of satin fabric
  • Mod Podge
  • Chain
  • Rhinestones
  • 1 Large bead
  • Small piece of gold elastic
  • Pliers or tweezers for setting stones
  • I also recommend a paper glue I like “yes” glue for paper and a strong glue like “bond 527” cement for gluing your bead on to the box.

Supplies To Make Your Lilly Pulitzer Minaudiere
Step 1
Take one of your cookie boxes and cut the top off and cut the sides open. I also recommend making notches in the sides to fit your chain.

Step 2
Lay your cut cookie box on top of your satin fabric and trace.

Step 3
Cut out your satin fabric, be sure to leave at least a half inch extra to fold over. Youll also want to miter your corners.

Step 4
Laying your cookie box on top of your cut satin fabric; fold your edges over and glue. I recommend using your paper glue for this.

Step 5
Take the box you will be using for the outside of your minaudiere and remove the string handle. Then using an x-acto knife make the hole large enough for your chain. Make your hole just big enough for your chain, you dont want your chain to slip out.
Insert your cookie box that is covered in satin inside your 2nd cookie box.

Step 6
Using your paper glue, glue your satin wrapped box inside your exterior box.

Step 7
Following steps 1 thru 4 make a covered top for the lid of your minaudiere. If youre really good youll do what I should have done and make it all together with the interior of your box. I try, Im not perfect.
When you glue your covered top into your box, add a small loop of your gold elastic.Photo Tutorial For Lilly Pulitzer DIY Cookie Box Minaudiere

Step 8
Paint your Mod Podge over one side of your cookie box at a time and using your pliers carefully place your stones where you want them. The Mod Podge dried very quickly while I was adding the stones, so you may need to add more as you go.
Cover the entire exterior of your cookie box with Mod Podge, this will help to make it more stable and a little more water resistant. (Its still a cookie box, be careful.)DIY Project Lilly Pulitzer Cookie Box Minaudiere

Step 9
Using an awl or another pointy object make a hole in the satin lining through the hole on the outside of your cookie box where you want your chain to go.
Once you have your chain in place put a drop of your strongest glue, I used “bond 527 cement” to hold your chain and help keep it in place.Lilly Pulitzer Cookie Box Minaudiere DIY Tutorial

Step 10
Using your strongest glue again, glue your bead to the outside of your cookie box. This bead with the gold elastic will be your closure.Lilly Pulitzer Cookie Box Minaudiere

Every year in the Spring Lilly Pulitzer makes a collaboration with Barnums Animal Crackers and this year they donated the proceeds to Operation Smile. Their prints are truly amazing and fun. The boxes really beg to be collectors items. This Lilly Pulitzer Cookie Box Minaudiere turned out just how I wanted and it feels even more sturdy than I expected. Doubling up the boxes and covering them with Mod Podge really makes the cookie boxes functional and the size is perfect, my IPhone fits like it was made for it! This Cookie Box Minaudiere is truly a found object DIY, I used a broken necklace for the chain and empty cookie boxes for the body. Andy Warhol wouldve been proud of my Cookie Box Minaudiere!

Whats your favorite cookie box youd like to turn into a minaudiere? Let me know Id love to hear.

  1. WOW! you must be kidding me! That’s AMAZING!!!! I’d love to try it out. Thanks for sharing! :-)

  2. This is so cute! Where do you get the boxes???

    • Thanks Dottie,
I bought them at the grocery store. They’ve also had them at target and other drug stores. Sometimes the Lilly Pulitzer stores have them. If you can’t find the Lilly Pulitzer edition the regular Barnum’s Animal cracker boxes would make really cute minaudieres too!
